An all white basketball league? Really?

I was listening to the radio on my way to work this morning, when I heard this little gem of a story.
Apparently, some dude in Georgia has decided that he’s going to start a new basketball league. Its players will be limited to natural born US citizens who have two Caucasian parents.
I’m not even kidding.
What..does…that…even…mean…for BASKETBALL? He claims that white dudes are in the minority now (they’re not) and that they should get their own league (they shouldn’t), so that they can just play fundamentals (which no one wants to see).
A quote from Mr. Don “Moose” Lewis (stolen outrightly from FanIQ):
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing. I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like. Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch? That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.”
I know what you’re thinking. But really, he’s not racist. He said so.
What do you guys think about the prospect of an only-Caucasians-allowed basketball league? And what’s next? Only natural born US citizens hockey league? THAT will be a snooze-fest.

honest to blog I don’t know what to think about this. I mean, my first gut reaction is that I find it fucking laughable. But then I wonder — is that because I’m black? And should I throw a fit because blacks are allowed to have blacks-centric type things.. although that was in reaction to previously not being ALLOWED to participate in activities..
ugh. I just.. ugh.

This is so totally ridiculous it boggles my mind. There are plenty of places to play fundamental basketball, you don’t need a whole league that excludes other races to do so. Not to mention the fact that plenty of non-Caucasian players have excellent fundamentals and very few of them exhibit the behaviors stated in that quote. It’s a professional athletes thing, not just a basketball players thing, and it’s own fault for giving them so much money that they think they should celebrate doing what they’re PAID TO DO.
But anyway.

The man is brilliant at the generalized statement. I have found myself more than a little horrified with the behavior of professional athletes…AND FANS OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS.
Do you think he’s also going to limit the spectators to only natural-born US citizens with two Caucasian parents? Not that anyone else will really want to watch it anyway.

Okay, here’s the thing.
White people ARE a minority in the NBA. They probably aren’t in college, because fundamental basketball is still actually played in college, and I for one LOVE fundamental ball.
HOWEVER.
I also love black people. I love the way black people play basketball. They brought an INCREDIBLE amount of depth and skill to the game, and it’s never been the same since. And that’s a GOOD THING.
Do I think there should be an “all white” basketball league? Hell no. I think white people need to learn how to play better, because that’s what gets you game time on the court.
Just ask any kid if they’d rather watch the Harlem Globe Trotters, or the Gainsville Racist Bastards. I can promise you, they want to see black guys making white guys look stupid. Hell, I do too. I just watch it in college, not in the NBA.

As long as you’re not trying to say that the NBA discriminates against white people, I can accept it. I don’t know, because basketball bores the snot out of me. But I would imagine that anyone who can make the teams money is probably asked to play. It’s a skill level thing.
What gets me is that he’s kind of insulting the people he’s trying to make the league for anyway. It’s almost an “I don’t think you can play with the big boys, so let’s get you your own league…and be an asshole about it” thing. It just makes no sense to me.
This is not a race thing. It’s a skill thing.

I would like to point out, as a Caucasian, that I flip people off and grab my crotch ALL THE TIME. (Especially when I play sports.)
In addition, I think this is complete and utter crap. Not so much him wanting to create the league, but his logic behind the justification for it.

i think we should just go with this concept, whole hog. every sport should have a different league for each race, and then the winners can play each other in a great big racial sport cup to determine the winner every year. members of that race would then be allowed to wear a crown and carry a scepter at any point for that year. it would be broadcast on espn2 and dave chappelle would do the play-by-play
